Capt. Ben Sells’s latest book, The Tunnel Under the Lake: The Engineering Marvel that Saved Chicago, is featured in the Northwestern University Press 2017 Spring/Summer catalog and was chosen as the lead book in the new series “Second to None: Chicago Stories.” The book tells the remarkable story of the building of the first tunnel under Lake Michigan and the accompanying Two-Mile Crib to provide Chicago’s drinking water. Completed in 1867, the tunnel and crib were one of the great engineering feats of the 19th century. This is a great read for Chicagoland sailors who want to learn more about the water cribs offshore from the city. To read more about the book, go to: http://tinyurl.com/j5t4293
